Denna staty var det första offentliga konstverket, som ställdes upp i Västerås. Det skedde den 6. juni 1864 i Vasaparken. Kostnaden för statyn uppgick till 7000 Riksdaler. Om transporten från München, där bronsbysten gjöts, ingick i den summan, förtäljs inte.
På sockeln finns en inskrift: "Till minne av den 24 juni 1527" - Denna dag hade det hållits den s.k. reformationsriksdagen i Västerås, där man bl.a. krävde kyrkan på en del av sina ägor, vilket blev början till en rejäl utplundring av kyrkan och likaså början till brytningen med katolicismen.

This statue was the first work of art to be raised in Västerås in a public place. This happened on June 6th, 1864 in Vasaparken. The expences for the statue amounted to 7000 Riksdaler. We don't know if the costs for the transport from Munich, where the bronze-bust was cast, were included in that sum.
The base has an inscription: "In memory of June 24th, 1527" - On this day the so called reformation-riksdag was held in Västerås, where Gustav Vasa claimed some possessions of the church, which was the starting point of a veritable plundering of the churches and as well the beginning of the breaking up with catholicism.

Dieses Denkmal war das erste öffentliche Kunstwerk, das in Västerås errichtet wurde. Das geschah am 6. Juni 1864 im Vasapark. Die Kosten für die Statue beliefen sich auf 7000 Reichstaler. Ob der Transport von München, wo die Bronzebüste gegossen worden war, in diesem Preis enthalten war, entzieht sich unserer Kenntnis.
Am Sockel gibt es eine Inschrift: "Zum Gedenken an den 24. Juni 1527" - An diesem Tag war der sogenannte Reformationsreichstag in Västerås abgehalten worden, wo Gustav Vasa der Kirche etliche Eigentümer abverlangte, was dann zu einer richtigen Ausbeutung der Kirche und auch zum Bruch mit dem Katholizismus führte.
